Champion head trainer

The WA Barista Championship has been and gone for another year. It was an awesome weekend, with a field of 16 competing for the main title, and plenty of representation for the Latte Art and Cup Tasting Championships. Mark Chandler, from Five Senses Coffee, was crowned WA Barista Championship, with the WA Barista Academy’s Jeremy Hulsdunk taking silver.

Jez backed up his silver with a win in both the Latte Art Championship and the Cup Tasting Championship, meaning he’s off to the Gold Coast in January to compete in the nationals. Jez is no newcomer to the competitive scene; he won the inaugural WA Barista Championship in 2006.

The Australian Barista Championship (the national final) should prove entertaining, with a huge field of WA Barista Academy trainers and past trainers competing against each other. Jeremy Hulsdunk, Mark Chandler, Jenny Murray and Ben Bicknell will all be hoping to win a title and with it, the opportunity to represent Australia at the World Barista Championship in London next year.
